The folk music show, “Folkwaves” is about to return to the scene, but this time as an hour long programme on the internet hosted by the UK Folk Music website  www.ukfolkmusic.co.uk 

Folkwaves was one of the most popular music programmes on BBC in the East Midlands for almost twenty-five years when, alongside other specialist music broadcasts, the BBC axed the show back in December 2010.  This brought about an unprecedented outcry from the general public and folk fans alike; even the presenters were amazed at its national, and worldwide popularity.  However, protests, letters of complaint, and an active Facebook “Bring back Folkwaves” campaign did not sway the BBC into a U-turn, and Folkwaves was no more.

Owing to public demand, however, Alan Morley, Founder of UK Folk Music has taken up the task to “Bring back Folkwaves” on the internet, and the pilot programme will be launched on the 1st day of May 2012.  Folkwaves’ original presenters, Mick Peat and Lester Simpson, renowned for their diverse mix of music and songs from the folk scene, are hosting the show once more, and will be playing music again from the great resurgence in folk and acoustic music!

John Tams, record producer, musician, singer and actor, has also been involved in the production, and has taken time out from his musical work on “War Horse” to add his knowledge and enthusiasm to Folkwaves.  The Folkwaves programme was recorded by Paul Hopkinson at the Forge Studio, Chesterfield.

Lots of Folkwaves listeners have expressed a wish to get together for the first airing, so UK Folk Music are opening the doors to the Concert Room of the Nailers Football Club, Bridge Street, Belper, on Tuesday the 1st of May to all the Folkwaves devotees.  The evening will commence at 8pm with the programme being played in-house, followed by a music session.  Everyone is welcome and it’s free admission, so please bring your instruments and voice, or just come along for a great social evening. 

The Folkwaves Team looks forward to welcoming you on the night for this May Day Celebration.

The Assembly Rooms Complex / the Guildhall Theatre, both situated in the Market Place, Derby DE1 3AH, and Christ Church, Bridge Street, Belper DE56 1BA.

We are also delighted to be coming to various venues when we welcome back into our area best selling Author, Michael Morpurgo, by promoting "Private Peaceful - the Concert" featuring Michael Morpurgo with Coope, Boyes & Simpson at Nottingham Playhouse, as well as "War Horse - the Concert" featuring Michael Morpurgo and John Tams & Barry Coope, at Theatre Severn, Shrewsbury and Buxton Opera House. This is your chance to see and hear highly acclaimed story-teller and remarkable Author, Michael Morpurgo, in person for yourself.  

Please remember if you purchase tickets from our Ticket Hotline payments are by cheque only.  Simply make your cheque payable to PR Promotions, and post it to PR Promotions, PO Box 200, Belper, Derbys DE56 2ZL.  Collect your tickets from us on the night, on the door at our PR desk just inside the venue foyer.
